Business of Fashion

In 2003, the CFDA and GenArt joined forces to present “The Future of Fashion,” a panel discussion which addressed the challenges facing young designers. Panelists shared their experiences and perspectives on relevant issues ranging from raising capital and developing a business plan to public relations an working with retailers. Based on the overwhelming success and need, the CFDA and GenArt created The Business of Fashion — to explore various topics related to business development and the critical elements designers need to consider in order to create and sustain a successful business.

Panelists to date have included designers Reed Krakoff, Nicole Miller, Zac Posen, Narciso Rodriguez, Nanette Lepore and Rebecca Taylor, as well as industry experts such as Peter Arnell, Teri Agins & Rachel Dodes/Wall Street Journal, Bridget Foley/W & WWD, Julie Gilhart/Barneys New York, Ron Frasch & Kimberly Grabel/Saks Fifth Avenue, Kristina O’Neill/Harpers Bazaar and Sally Singer/Vogue and Denise Williamson/Denise Williamson Showroom — to name but a few.

Now entering its fifth year, the Business of Fashion is underwritten by Saks Fifth Avenue.
